Wow, what do you play? I don't see how playing an instrument would detract at all from your musical ability; if anything, it should enhance your recognition of pitch.

Ah, aren't fansubs generally accepted if the show hasn't been licensed or released in the region?

Well, story and character development are important aspects of anime as well. I'm actually watching Nodame Cantabile right now, and enjoying it immensely, despite many of the grand orchestral scenes being composed entirely of conglomerations of still pictures.
Oh, wow! Those are some top-tier institutions, though it's kind of curious that you are applying to a set of tech schools, and then Williams. You must be either incredibly smart and talented, or slightly overestimating your chances. Do you have any inkling of what you want to focus or major in?
